The State of Vermont is currently seeking a candidate to fill an exempt position, Director of Pre-Trial Services.
The Director of Pre-Trial Services is responsible for the planning, directing, and administering the various county-wide PreTrial activities.
The Director of Pre-Trial Services is an Executive Management position which, under the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections, directs and administers the Pre-Trial activities for the fourteen counties of Vermont.
Duties include the following: Management responsibilities include planning, directing and administering the various county-wide Pre-Trial activities including services for those in pre-charge programs overseen by State's Attorneys and those charged and awaiting trial in the judicial system; directing the activities of multiple contracted staff in the interviewing, fact-finding and decision-making involved in the pre-trial of accused criminals on their own recognizance; coordinating the program's activities with local criminal justice agencies and local treatment providers, as well as state and federal agencies, and conferring weekly with the assigned duty judge, prosecutors, and defense attorneys on program policy, procedures and changes; evaluating the efficiency of program procedures and developing and initiating changes as required; modifying and adopting practices and procedures to conform with program priorities; developing and maintaining all relevant reports and records; preparing budget requests and authorizing expenditures; selecting, training, overseeing and evaluating performance of multiple contracted staff; attending conferences and meetings regarding Pre-Trial activities; being available to work on an on-call, 24-hour basis and performs related work as required.
